PLATO courseware and PLATO Pathways management system work together to provide a powerful instructional resource for the success of students. Each course targets specific competencies and skill levels, allowing learners to progress through the material at their own pace. PLATO incorporates instructional strategies that target skill development and incorporate real-life applications. Problem based activities allow learners to develop their problem-solving skills. It is from this base that learners will acquire the critical thinking skills necessary to function effectively in today’s increasingly complex world. Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension provides extensive and challenging comprehension practice with both expository and narrative texts. An accountability system generates data-based and graphical reports for managers, instructors, learners and parents.  PLATO contains a comprehensive list of software in the following curricular areas: reading, math, science, social studies, life skills and career skills. Grades K-Adult.  In November 2003 PLATO merged with Lightspan, Inc.  Lightspan provides curriculum-based educational software and on-line products and services that increase student achievement and enhance the professional development of teachers.
