Higher Order Thinking Skills for Primary Children

Program Content

This workshop begins with an examination of Quellmalz's HOTS in chart form and usually confirms that most teachers are currently using HOTS in their classrooms. This realization makes it easier for teachers to engage in discussion and formulate questions on the topic.

The workshop also uses Graphic Organizer Collection by Phyllis Green, Ed., which primarily focuses on organizers for literature. The organizers are divided into five sections: advance or pre-reading, character analysis, story maps, comprehension, and self-assessment. These organizers can be used with any work of literature or adapted to other content areas. Primary teachers will learn to use these organizers as aids to help their students think more clearly and in more detail.

Program Objectives

  • To introduce primary teachers to the use of higher order thinking skills in their classrooms
  • To encourage primary teachers to use graphic organizers in their classrooms
  • To demonstrate how using high order thinking skills can increase a student's learning and fun in the classroom

Recommended Training: One half-day
